All matters of immigration law are enforced by the federal government. The way to enforce the law against illegal immigrants is deportation typically. Arizona cannot deport the offenders since they will get their day in a federal court. The Arizona law simply fills up the local jails with those suspected of being illegal immigrants. As far as I know the Arizona law does not contain any budget increase in detention facilities for the state so that means that the suspects will be released and mandated to appear in court at a later time. I believe the Arizona law will allow police officers to question people who congregate in places illegals meet such as day labor meeting spots. However the law may be interpreted as allowing officers the ability to question people if they speak English or not if the officer hears a foreign language spoken. My personal thoughts are that this law is a political stunt that will only burden the state of Arizona.

The law is great in theory. The fact that they need a law is what is silly. There already is a Federal law in place that does basically the same thing. The problem is the Federal government has decided to not enforce the law. They have tied the states hands behind their backs by not deporting people who are caught.
